Last year, Yard's ownership split apart, the brewmaster took the name and beers and the financiers kept the brewery, now called Philadelphia Brewing Co. I tried both PBC's Kenzinger and Yard's Philly Pale Ale to cast my lot in this fight and get an opportunity to taste a new beer in its infancy. On an unrelated note, Good Dog is an excellent dive.
Kenzinger: Named after beloved neighborhood and PBC home, Kenzo, I couldn't help but get a milky first sip. Otherwise it went down smooth, and had little aftertaste.
Phily Pale Ale: The name was generic, and it tasted even milkier. Either I must not be a fan of Pale Ale or Philly just isn't the right place for it. And yes, I did show bad form by not clearing my palate, fuck off. Otherwise, it was just as smooth and was slightly inferior to Kenzinger. I'm very tempted to put it in my cereal.
My decision: PBC. Though I won't object to being served Yard's.
